Non-Concussion Injury Return to Play

For non-concussion injuries, return-to-play requirements may vary depending on the injury, severity, symptoms, position, and risk of re-injury.

Examples may include:

  1. Sprains and strains
  2. Fractures
  3. Dislocations
  4. Lacerations
  5. Illness
  6. Dental injuries
  7. Eye injuries
  8. Back or neck injuries
  9. Shoulder, knee, ankle, hip, wrist, or hand injuries
  10. Other medical conditions that affect safe participation

For non-concussion injuries, we follow Hockey Canada safety protocols, including injury documentation, removal from play when required, referral to appropriate medical professionals, and coordination of return to play.

Because each injury is different, medical documentation must clearly explain what the player is returning from and what level of hockey activity is permitted.

A player may be held out of practice, contact activity, or game play until the team Trainer confirms that return-to-play requirements have been met.
